Last night was terrific. Danger Punch, my husband’s artist collective, put on a Halloween party with artwork, bands & lots of beer. I went as Medusa, which was a super fun costume that I threw together the day before. Ed & all the boys went as different versions of Andy Warhol, like any good art students would. Such a great night & the turnout was amazing.

The opening for Ed’s first year show was last night at Disjecta. It was a great show & the work is fantastic. I think that there are some really tremendous artists in Ed’s program & I can’t wait to see where their talents will lead them over the next few years. Also, they are some stellar individuals that I feel so lucky to know & love. If you’re in the area, go check this show out. You’ll be glad you did.

John Baldessari & Tom Waits- what more do you need?

If you’re in Portland,

you should come out to the PNCA MFA Open Studios tonight. My lovely Eddie will be wearing a tie, drinking booze & talking to you about his art. Is there any better way you could be spending your Saturday night ( at least from 6:30 to 11:00)? I doubt it.

Last week I went to Nikki McClure's lecture at PNCA. I've been a fan of Nikki's work for a few years now (you should check it out if you haven't). I had been anticipating it for months. Her show at the Museum of Contemporary Craft is phenomenal & made me fall in love with her even more. Scanned images of paper-cuts just don’t do them justice.
Hearing her speak was a great experience & it validated the feelings I’ve been having toward art lately. Art can be something you simply just enjoy doing. Not everything you make has to have some grand meaning behind it. Sometimes what you make doesn’t have meaning for you until you’ve completed it. I also loved that she didn’t think having her art in a white-walled gallery was the ultimate goal. I’ve never seen my work being in galleries or ever even wanted it there. Nikki said that she liked her work being in people’s kitchens because that’s something they live with. That’s the way she tries to create change & that’s something I can get behind.

Shirt- Chloé
Skirt- Ralph Lauren
Earrings- asos
Necklace- EMILIEMORRIS
Belt- Zara
Shoes- Gucci
Purse- Cole Haan
This is one of my very favorite outfits I’ve designed. Audrey Kawasaki is also one of my favorite current artists, so I guess it makes sense. I started designing this outfit around the skull hair piece. I found this perfect necklace & I’m so happy with it. Next, I added the blouse because it matches the background. I paired it with this tan skirt from Ralph Lauren & this adorable pink belt. The pink flower earrings were picked because they match the hair piece. The purse is not only cute, but it also has a wood grain texture, which I love! It goes so well with the artwork. My favorite thing about this outfit is how the necklace looks with an outfit that’s over-the-top cute. It’s a great combination.

Top- Van Mildert
Tank-Agent Ninetynine
Skirt- Fashion-Conscious
Tights- Wolford Affaire
Necklace- Max & Chloe
Boots- Ralph Lauren
Purse- Mulberry
The colors in this piece were so inspiring, so the whole look just kind of fell together. I started off with the skirt, which I love! Next, I found the blouse, which ties in the color of the church. I layered it over an orange tank & paired it with matching stockings. I added brown boots & a purse to match the trees in the painting. Lastly, I added the necklace which matches the sky & brings the tree branches into the outfit. I really love this one. It’s a great fall look.

I have a new blog that I’m really excited about. It’s called Thread & Canvas. It’s where my two loves- art & fashion will combine. Not only will I merge clothing & artwork, but I’ll also mix high fashion with bargain brands & art from the canon with lesser-known artifacts.
I’ll be posted a new piece every day, so it’s should get pretty interesting. Follow me.
