Happy Birthday/ Merry Christmas to me!
I finally bought some Hunter rain boots for myself because I’m finally a good Portlander.
We also went to Crafty Wonderland at the Convention Center. It’s so inspiring to see what local artists & artisans are making.
Edward & I went to this yesterday. Though we didn’t purchase anything & the place was outlandishly crowded, it was pretty fun! Colin Meloy, from the Decemberists, was even there signing his book Under Wildwood which was unexpected & rather exciting.
Last night was terrific. Danger Punch, my husband’s artist collective, put on a Halloween party with artwork, bands & lots of beer. I went as Medusa, which was a super fun costume that I threw together the day before. Ed & all the boys went as different versions of Andy Warhol, like any good art students would. Such a great night & the turnout was amazing.
From TBA’s website:
Created by performance artist Paul Soileau, CHRISTEENE has emerged as a pop music artist and anti-icon in its own right. CHRISTEENE is a shameless and sexually infused sewer of live rap and RnB, whose message challenges gender, capitalism, corporate mendacity, complacency, and false celebrity while shattering the American obsession with charm and grace. Providing a much-needed voice for a new society and posing a threat to those who support the current structures, CHRISTEENE is a new, dangerous, and unstable breed of entertainer and “Drag Terrorist.”
Ed & I went to the Cooley Gallery at Reed College today after work. I’ve been a fan of Kara Walker for years & it was so great to see her work in real life. It was a great way to spend the afternoon. (Yay! I love art!)
I loved my unexpected Thursday night plans! Ali got Ed & I tickets for the Grace Potter & the Nocturnals show at the zoo. Though the show was great, seeing her face after two years was the best. Such a great night.
The opening for Ed’s first year show was last night at Disjecta. It was a great show & the work is fantastic. I think that there are some really tremendous artists in Ed’s program & I can’t wait to see where their talents will lead them over the next few years. Also, they are some stellar individuals that I feel so lucky to know & love. If you’re in the area, go check this show out. You’ll be glad you did.
